Welcome to the new academic year

We would like welcome our new members of staff who joined us this September. We are sure that they will easily settle into life at Yavneh College and we wish them every success during their time with us. Congratulations to all the pupils who performed so well in their examinations this summer both at GCSE and at A Level. We would like to highlight those who performed so well in outperforming their own target grades by some distance. In addition, we would like to highlight the outstanding achievement of the Yavneh graduates who have gained a place to study at Oxford or Cambridge in 2016. The fact that 10% of graduates have gained an Oxbridge place is something of which we are extremely proud.

We also welcome the arrival of 180 new Year 7 pupils to Yavneh College. On their recent trip to Phasels Wood in the summer, they were encouraged to work together, make new friends and develop new skills. Phasels Wood is a Scout run activity centre where pupils take part in activities such as climbing, zip wire and archery along with a host of team building activities. It was extremely heartening to see those pupils who at first were a little nervous about scaling a wall to say how much they wanted to do it again and again later on in the day. Pupils supported each other on activities when they could sense that somebody was struggling; this team work and care is one of the fundamental principles in how we do things at Yavneh in what we call the ‘Yavneh Way.’ The pupils have built on a very good start to the year at Phasels Wood and continue to impress with their work ethic and tenacity, something we hope continues for the remainder of their time at Yavneh College. One Year 7 pupil, Ella Obrart wrote, ‘Phasels Wood was so much fun, it was great for everyone. Between the teachers making bins out of cones, to walking away with no broken bones. We really enjoyed our time in the sun, now it’s finished and we look forward to what’s to come.’.
