Girls Netball

Netball at Yavneh has been extremely popular so far this school year, with big turn outs at practices for all year groups and additional matches added to the calendar in response to demand!  Year 8 and 9 netball has been so well attended that there have been matches played against other schools for A, B and C teams!

Year 7 started their season well with a convincing win in their first game against Stanborough.  Miss Penn was very impressed with the quality of netball and has high hopes for the team!  Year 7 have also played a difficult game against Dame Alice Owens and have secured a second win against Immanuel.

Year 8 have improved their performance throughout the last term, showing grit and determination against difficult opposition.  Amelia San has been awarded player of the match for the year 8B team on several occasions.

Year 9 have had an excellent season to date and have shown significant improvements since last year.  They have been attending practice with the year 10 and 11 teams and have shown that they are capable of playing at a higher level.  They have secured wins against Stanborough and SFO and were an excellent challenge when playing against Queenswood.  The attacking duo of Aimee Summerfield and Danielle Gordon has been particularly strong, moving the ball around the court and Mia Herman has been strong in defence, making excellent tips to intercept the ball.

Year 10 and 11 have been playing consistently well all year and have had a good squad at training with lots of the year 11s also working on improving their umpiring.   Year 11 are currently unbeaten and have played Chancellors, Owens and Bentlywood.  Amelia Rubens and Eve Lewis have particularly stood out in the year 11 team for their attacking work and Jade Susman has improved significantly in recent months, showing that the time and effort she has applied outside of school has paid off.  Year 10 have also had a successful season with some extremely skilful play from  Beth Karbaron and Portia Nicholas Jago standing out.

Fixtures and practices will be on-going until the end of term for all year groups.

Girls Football

Football Club has been a popular choice for the year 7 and 8 girls this year despite some poor weather conditions at times.  Year 7 in particular have enjoyed some excellent coaching from the Year 11 GCSE students who have led the sessions on a Monday lunchtime as part of their GCSE leadership assessment in Football.  Ben Barres and Joe Salomon should be congratulated for their thorough planning and excellent delivery of the sessions, the boys have gone above and beyond what was expected of them.

The year 7, 8 & 9 teams have all attended the Mid-Herts District Tournaments held at Hertswood School with the year 7 team making it to the semi-finals but unfortunately losing on penalties. Sophie Collins stood out as Mr Layton’s player of the tournament.

Boys Football

The boy’s football fixtures are in full swing with all year groups (7-11) currently competing in the Mid Herts District League. The year 7 boys team have had excellent turnouts at lunchtime practice and have played in several A & B team fixtures so far this season. Performance highlights have been the teams’ victories against Sir Frederic Osborn and Immanuel College and the outstanding individual performances of Harry Tredler and Adar Canning Elms. Despite narrow defeats against Hertswood and Chancellors, spirits are high in the Year 8 team following recent victories against Onslow and Immanuel College. There has been an excellent commitment to lunchtime practice from many of the boys and outstanding performances in particular from Reuben Wapnick and Jude Lewis.

The Year 9’s suffered two defeats against previous winners Mount Grace and last years’ semi finalist Chancellors. Year 10 recovered from a defeat in their first match and while the Year 11’sbut produced a strong performance to take a victory against Onlsow. The Year 11’s were knocked out in the early stages of the Mid Herts District Tournament by Hertswood.

Fixtures will continue in the Spring following a break for rugby and Basketball fixtures in January and February.

Boys Rugby

The boys rugby season starts for Year 7 and Year 8  in January with lunchtime practices. All boys are welcome to attend, regardless of ability or experience. Fixtures are already scheduled for the end of February.

Boys Basketball

This year’s year 9 basketball fixtures are underway and they are competing in the Mid Herts District League, playing Stanborough, Sir Frederic Osborn, Hertswood and Onslow. The turnout at practices has been good and they have improved through the season. A highlight was a win and a draw in a district rally, where they narrowly missed on a semi-final place. In doing so they won against Onslow and drew with Sir Fredrics Osborn. One of the most consistent performers has been Jamie Gordon and in particular his much improved lay-up. In the New Year both year 7 and 8 will have their chance and play in the district Schools League

Maccabi Sports Competitions

The girls have only attended one Maccabi competition so far this year which was the Maccabi 5-aside football.  The year 7 were the most successful, reaching the semi finals of the tournament.  Special mention to Georgia Rosenberg in year 9 for her outstanding performance in goal.  This was even commented on by the Maccabi referee.  Well done to all girls who played.

Watford and Hertsmere School Sports Partnership events

The girls have attended the badminton and basketball Watford and Hertsmere school sports partnership competitions.  These competitions are an opportunity to play against different schools who are outside of our district.  The sports are often different and the girls attend with less experience than some of the sports they play more often.

Miss Penn took a team to the U14 badminton competition, where unfortunately we lost to strong opposition.  Georgia Reback and Georgia Rosenberg stood out and show potential for the sport!

We had varied success at the basketball competition with the year 7 team winning several of their games.  Zara Daniels stood out in this competition and showed that she had god ball control and speed to travel down the court, putting pressure on the opposition.  In the year 9 competition, Danielle Gordon was the star player, showing determination, even against stronger teams.

Well done to all girls involved.  Listen out for future competitions to take part in!
