9th October – Apprenticeship Information Evening
On Tuesday 9th October we held an Apprenticeship evening for Sixth Form students and parents. Over 50 people attended.
This evening was designed to provide a greater understanding for students and parents of the range of options open to them through different sorts of post-18 Apprenticeships. As well as an introductionary (general) presentation about Apprenticeships (see attached) we heard from representatives from different companies including:
- GSK
- The Civil Service
- Jacobs
- Adler Shine
Each speaker spoke about the nature of the Apprenticeships they offer and the sorts of qualifications needed to apply. A number of the speakers were Yavneh alumni students who spoke about their own experiences at Yavneh and how they ended up pursuing an Apprenticeship pathway rather than a university degree.
Some FACTS/FIGURES:
- Between Aug 2017 – April 2018 there were 290,500 apprenticeship starts.
- 44% were advanced level (equivalent to an A-Level)
- 12% were higher (equivalent to a degree)
- Using 2016-17 stats, with 491,300 starters, 86% went into healthcare, admin and law, retail, and engineering
- A Feb 2017 government research found that:
