Careers Fair

Over 300 parents/students (Year 10-13) attended our Careers Fair on the 23^rd January.

We are so grateful to the sixty plus volunteers from our Parent bodies (both from Yavneh College and Yavneh Primary School) who kindly represented and showcased a huge range of careers from a variety of different industries and sectors for our students.

The evening also included two “spotlight” sessions held in the Theatre where eight presenters provided a brief snapshot of their career.

Thank you so much to all those involved who helped make the evening such a success.

Royal Institution

Yavneh College and the Royal Institution of Great Britain strengthen ties through Masterclasses yet again!

In early 2021, an aspiring and gifted year 12 Yavneh College student, Mr. Josh Morris, who went on to study at Imperial College London, became fascinated with Masterclasses from the Royal Institution of Great Britain (Ri) and lobbied hard for the training. The Ri had been connecting people to Science for well over 200 years and established an international reach, working with world-leading scientists. Sir Christopher Zeeman originally inspired the Masterclass programme over 40 years ago. Masterclasses had grown into a nationwide programme of Mathematics, Engineering and Computer Science courses for school students aged 9 to 18 years.
Ms. Alison Eves led a training event on Thursday 14th January 2025 at Yavneh College. Seven year 12s volunteered and worked together to bring forth ideas to inspire a love of learning amongst Primary School children. The contribution of the Ri was well-received, and Ms. Eves was applauded for her work by the year 12s. It is expected that most of these 12s will undertake activities to inspire a love of learning amongst Primary School students.

Alumni Medical Students 24

We welcomed back some of our alumni students currently studying medicine to give a talk to Year 11 and 12 students thinking about studying Medicine at University and run mock interviews with our Year 13 students in the process of applying for Medicine. We are so proud of all the progress of our alumni Medical students and wish them every success in their future careers.

Apprenticeship Evening

We welcomed several of our alumni students back to Yavneh College this evening to talk about their post-18 journey having pursued an Apprenticeship pathway. It was wonderful see to how much each student has accomplished and we are very proud of their success.

VAWG (violence against women & girls) Year 13 boys discussion group

On Friday 29th November, a Neighbourhood Team Sergeant from Hertfordshire Police spent the day at Yavneh running discussion groups for Year 13 boys about VAWG (violence against women and girls). The talk was delivered to all boys in Year 13 in small groups. The talk focussed on how these young men can stand up for women and be active bystanders and what they themselves can do to make women feel safe and how their interactions with women need to come from the standpoint of safety.

Year 10 Work Experience (Communities 1st)

Year 10 students are currently completing a rolling two day work experience placement at Communites 1st from November to May. We are so grateful to Communities 1st for supporting our students and providing this opportunity for our students.

CyberFirst Challenge

The CyberFirst challenge is a nationwide competition, where girls navigate through challenges spanning cryptography, logic, artificial intelligence, and networking. At Yavneh, we had over 30 students competing against other schools to try and be the cyber security champions. The competition isn’t over yet, so good luck to them all!

West Herts College Careers Assembly (Year 11)

Year 11s had an assembly this morning run by West Herts College talking to students about the different post-16 options available at West Herts and talking about what College life is like.

Lives not Knives (Virtual Reality workshop)

A small group of Year 7 students took part in a pilot workshop run by two members of the local police (CCE Prevention and Diversion Team) as part of their work within the community.

Its core objectives are to educate young people aged 10-16 on social issues such as gang culture and knife crime, and aims to reduce youth crime, youth violence and child criminal exploitation.
